Ladybirds have been creating their own “first, then and now” maths stories using a tens frame. They used the counters to represent the marbles Monkey had put in the jar. It was great to hear them using the sentence stems to retell their number story. pic.twitter.com/kpuQjpN2dV

Science Week—Harpenden Academy on Tour

EYFS Reception Class

Ducklings

As part of our topic on ‘The Ugly Duckling’ Ladybird Class has had the privilege of hatching ducks! We now have:

Leicester , Woody, Jemima  & Forest

The children have loved learning about how ducklings hatch and how to care for them!

Bubbles

Having fun during Science Week, answering all of our bubble questions that we generated in Year 1 and Reception.

Key Stage 1—Year 1 and Year 2

At Woodside Farm we saw an unusual bird called a Rhea, a Gloucester Old Spot Pig, and a Shetland Pony naming but a few. The children got to handle a Chinchilla, a Bearded Dragon, a Chick and a Corn Snake. Children then got the opportunity to go on a real working tractor which took the children on a journey around the farm.

Year 3

Kipling & Potter Class have really enjoyed Science Week. We have taken every       opportunity to incorporate science into all aspects of our learning. In English, we have started to look at Poems about Aliens, Maths we have looking at different graphs and been using them in science. The Space Centre was a great learning experience and we learnt even more about the universe around us.

Year 4 Austen Class Rocket into Science Week!

Science Week has been an exciting one!  We started the week by making our very own periscopes. We then combined our English and Science learning to write an   explanation about how a periscope works.  I was very impressed with the children’s use of language and the structure of their explanations. We have some                   sophisticated writers in Year 4!

Our trip to the Space Centre on Wednesday was definitely the highlight of our week.  The children were completely inspired by the environment and were like sponges absorbing all the facts around them!

Year 5

Dahl Class had an amazing time at the National Space Centre. I think a firm favourite was the Planetarium which generated a lot of enquiry-based questions when we got back to class!

Year 6

Shakespeare class had a wonderful time at the Space Centre learning lots of mind-boggling and mind-blowing facts about space. Back down to Earth with a BANG yesterday, they wrote extremely persuasive leaflets advertising the educational tourist attraction!
