Key Stage 1 and 2 - Overview
All primary age groups will be taught the nine subjects of the National Curriculum; English, mathematics, science, technology (including information and communication technology (ICT), history, geography, art, music and physical education). Personal, social, health and emotional Education (PSHE), religious education and modern foreign languages (MFL) will be taught in addition to the above subjects.
The programmes of study for English and mathematics will be delivered daily and developed to ensure children learn the essential basic skills necessary in order for them to succeed when they move on to the secondary phase of their education.
The phonics scheme used is Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds.
Other areas; science, ICT, music and physical education will also appear on the school timetable on a weekly basis. The remaining aspects of the curriculum; history, geography, design technology, art and religious education are taught through focused topics, mapped out to take place at different times in the school year. The application of skills in ICT will also be delivered through other subjects of the curriculum.
Religious education (RE) will be taught in accordance with the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus. The school will have no affiliation with any religious denomination and RE is broadly based. Specialist teaching will also be delivered in a range of subjects and contexts, for example MFL. This specialist teaching will build on the learning delivered by the primary class teachers.
